Avengers Assemble

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) with C Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) assemble a team of extraordinary super-heroes The Avengers. Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans) Bruce Banner, a.k.a. The Hulk(Mark Ruffalo) Thor(Chris Hemsworth)Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson)and Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) team up to save the world from the powerful Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Loki it turns out has escaped being cast into the space at the end of Thor and plans to use the Tesseract, an infinitely powerful blue cube first used by Red Skull in Captain America, to open a portal for an incoming alien army.

I would of loved it if Edward Norton had of reprised his role of the Hulk, and I know I will get hate mail for that,  I had nothing bad to say for Mark Ruffalo’s performance but I just think Nortons Hulk would of been amazing. Gwyneth Paltrow returns as Pepper Potts and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr Erik Selvig brief though they were. It takes guts to take on a project like this combining all of marvels build up super hero franchises and Joss Whedon does a good job with doing so, with the upcoming Avengers Age of Ultron fans trust him with the task. Whedon is obviously a fan, and respects the material and is able to juggle effortlessly both individual character development and character-to-character relationships, devising a narrative that accommodates everyone without losing anyone.

Why did I choose this movie, well again it was Matthew who invited me along to the triple bill!   I missed it at the cinema so I was looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.  Everyone has something to say about it, most claiming it was some amazing emotional experience, mostly comic book fans! Yea it was good, better than I expected, and better second time around on the big screen!  It struck the right balance between the characters and the story worked well. The only thing I didn’t like was the Transformers 3 style chaos that ensued at the end battle, not to spoil it but thousands must of died in that fight! Overall it was a good show, I think the next one will be better as no backstory or assembling will be required, just loads of James Spader goodness. Marvel has cleared the way for DC to follow with Justice League showing we can bring together loads of big hero’s and make a movie together!

My Rating: B
Format: Cinema (Cineworld: Edinburgh)
I would buy this Movie
