Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

San Diego’s legendary newsman, Ron Burgundy(Will Ferrell), is sitting at the top with his wife and co anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate). However times are again a changing and when the famous nightly news anchor Mack Harken (Harrison Ford) decides to retire Ron is shocked when he is fired and Veronica is hired as the first female nightly news anchor! Ron down on his luck signs on to a new venture with the nations first 24 hour news channel. Ron gathers his old news team to join him sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) the cool suave man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) in this epic journey back to the top!

With all sequels there comes the comparison to what came before and I will do my best not to judge this movie on the merits of its predecessor. However with a 9 year gap between the first and second it will be hard! It is a funny show, fan or not i think you will enjoy it. In fact i think people who have not watched the first one as much as i have will enjoy it more! It falls into the trap that a lot of comedy sequels do, that it is funny, but the jokes are what you have come to expect. Rather than a subtle tip of the cap to its predecessors, awkward comedic genius, Anchorman 2 slightly over plays the jokes giving the slight feeling of “queed” laughter. This is not meant as a criticism i did enjoy it and everyone in the theater enjoyed it too from the laughter but it just was not the belly aching affair of the first.

Why did I choose this movie, well i have been waiting for Nine years to see it, the fact I’m only getting around to watching it now is because I didn’t have my news team with me! Anchorman is even now a huge favourite with my friends and myself, there was a time we sat down to watch it every week so when the sequel came out we all were as happy as brick with a big red candle. Fan or not go and have a watch and while you’re at it dig up a copy of the first one ! Full to the brim of cameos and piss takes of the news! You stay classy!
