Stewart’s: St Giles

Stewart Brewing was founded in Edinburgh as a local, independent micro-brewery 2004 by Steve and Jo Stewart and was based on two very simple principles, to produce the highest quality ale and beers possible and to provide an exceptional service to its customers. St Giles brewed with the intention of adding a slight twist to the Scotch Ale style and named after one of Edinburgh’s most famous landmarks, St.Giles Cathedral, St. Giles is a combination of traditional Scottish brewing and American Cascade hops.

Pours a dark brown/copper colour topped with a thin creamy white head. Toffee, sweet roasted malt and hints of chocolate dominate the nose. Dark, luxuriously rich with fruity malty caramel flavours. Charmingly smooth with a full and robust body.I am not a huge fan of dark ales but I did enjoy this one. On its own I couldn’t sit and drink it all night long but I think it would pair off fantastically with a steak!  I had the opportunity to try this beer for the first time at the Stewart’s Brewery while on a tour and the experience pushed up my 32 new beers on my list of 32 Things. It is part of Stewart’s  permanent range so you will be able to buy this one all year round!
