Guardians of the Galaxy

Impetuous interstellar outlaw Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) finds himself on the run after stealing a mysterious Orb from an abandoned temple at the far reaches of space.  Pursued, not only by his fellow outlaws the Ravagers and their captain Yondu (Michael Rooker) Quill and the Orb are also being sought after by the deadly assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), bounty hunters Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel), the evil warlord Ronan and super villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) who both desire the Orb for their own destructive means. When captured and imprisoned an uneasy truce is formed when they realise the Orbs true power, and what it would mean in the hands of Ronan or Thanos.  Quill leads the band of disparate misfits Rocket, Groot, Gamora and Drax (Dave Bautista ) to fight against the evil Ronan and become the Guardians of the Galaxy

I have to say that this movie is my favourite ever marvel movie.  Its scope reaches so far into the shared Marvel universe that it was amazing how it was all contained so neatly. The movie is all heart, I think that’s why you can not only believe that all of these different people can come together into a band of unlikely heroes, but also how they can break the moulds that defined.  The casting was perfect, the actors all fitted the roles with such ease that it made what was a complicated set up, and bringing together of unlikely ally’s so much easier and more believable. The choice for Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel to voice Rocket and Groot was nothing short of genius as they are roles that the comic actors would normally get. I loved Karen Gillan, even with a shaved head and covered in blue make up she still looked sexy.  Benicio Del Toro reprising the role as The Collector again was a point of reference to ground the movie into the same universe as The Avengers etc.  It is amazing how dramatic it was for a movie that really didn’t take itself too seriously.  It is my no means a spoof but its not as dark as previous Marvel movies.

Why did I chose this movie? It was decided upon our last visit to the cinema to watch Transformers 4 that our next visit would be Guardians of the Galaxy.  I cannot tell you how flawless this movie is, everything is just in perfect balance I cannot find one thing wrong with it.  The humour throughout fits perfectly with the characters, the action and special effects there to drive the story and not to make a loud noise, the soundtrack is nothing short of awesome, the characters and stars who play them all believable and even relatable, the acting is superb, the bigger picture hinted upon enough to keep focus on what’s current and it’s contained in a nice neat 2 hour window.  Most importantly No raccoons or tree creatures were harmed during the making of this film.  Go and see this movie, it is instantly enjoyable from start to end.  I am going to watch it again!
