Stewart Brewing was founded in Edinburgh as a local, independent micro-brewery 2004 by Steve and Jo Stewart and was based on two very simple principles, to produce the highest quality ale and beers possible and to provide an exceptional service to its customers. Stewart’s Hop Series adds Solas as part of their new range of IPAs, and is classed as a “Red IPA” which is a balances a red ale with New World mountain hops!
It pours hazy amber with a good pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and crisp and with the addition of five different hops, has powerful and distinct flavours. Minerals, slightly bitter edge with strong marmalade and slight citric peel and spicy hops which all add to well balanced and assertive bitterness on the finish. It I an absolute perfect mix of flavours with a great bitter edge that can be drank all night! Solas pours bright red with a white foam. The palate is smooth with notes of caramel, red berry and soft citrus. It is quite malty balanced with hints of grassy hops. Finish is dry and bitter. It really is easy going stuff and drinkable beer. Pushing into autumn for me feels like the perfect beer to be enjoying its sturdy and refreshing! I had the opportunity to try this beer for the first time at the Stewart’s Brewery while on a tour. We went through a lot of them and so far Stewarts has dominated my 32 New Beers on my list of 32 Things. More from this brewery coming your way!
