Erdinger boasts the world’s largest wheat beer brewery where tradition and progress go hand in hand. Brewed according to traditional recipes, but using state-of-the-art technology, beer connoisseurs in Germany and around the world regard the traditional specialty beers from Erding, Bavaria, as the ultimate in wheat beer enjoyment
Erdinger Schneeweiße (Snow Beer) is slightly darker and stronger than classic Erdinger Weissbier which I tried and enjoyed earlier in the year Schneeweiße. Very hazy dark orange wheat colour with a beautiful thick snowy foam head. Sweet malts, toffee with grains, faint banana and bready notes. Refreshing plate with a bitterness that is offset by a malty sweetness, wheat, grains. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Schneeweiße uses the first malts from the summer harvest. It’s not until mid October that the wheat beer specialty develops its amber color and spicy flavor – a result of its long maturing period. This beer goes particularly well with big hearty meals so the Christmas season makes it a popular choice. I had mine with a porter house steak in McCracken’s Bar but this is a seasonal beer only available from November to February so if you want to try it I would go pick one up soon. It is a welcome addition to the range of 32 New Beers on my list of 32 Things more to come over this Christmas season.
